National First Aid Competition

National First Aid CompetitionWe run first aid competitions annually across England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Channel Islands, where teams compete against each other in a range of first aid scenarios. Winners of the regional competitions come together for the National First Aid Competition (usually in July), for a chance to be crowned the ultimate champions!

Who can take part?

We accept teams of:

  • • St John Ambulance Badgers (Ages 7-10, teams of two)
  • • St John Ambulance Cadets (Ages 10-17, teams of four)
  • • Army Cadets (Ages 10-17, teams of four).

What’s involved?

Teams work together dealing with first aid scenarios. Child-friendly judges look at their communication skills, ability to work calmly under pressure and on giving the correct treatment - all important characteristics when facing a real-life first aid emergency.

We give scenarios a sense of realism by using actors who are made up with special effects simulating real-life injuries and ailments.

There are separate challenges for primary and secondary school-age children, with age-appropriate scenarios.

We’ll let you know which first aid scenarios we’ll be challenging teams to handle closer to competition time. All of the scenarios will be based on our teaching resources, which can help you prepare your team on how to deal with all of the different first aid challenges.

What can the teams win?

All entrants receive a certificate. Finalists receive a goody bag, and winners receive medals and some other special prizes!
