Voyage of Discovery

Voyage of Discovery boat by Tower Bridge

British adventurer Sir David Hempleman-Adams has set off to sail across the Atlantic in support of St John Ambulance

Sir David, who is 62-years-old, has inspired the likes of Bear Grylls and Ben Fogle with his previous record-breaking expeditions. His ‘Voyage of Discovery’, sailing across the Atlantic, will be his greatest ever challenge.

‘For me, this is a bigger challenge than climbing Everest.’ - Sir David

His Voyage of Discovery across the Atlantic will take around 35 days as he sails from the UK to New York this May.

He’ll be up against the high seas and unpredictable weather. His challenge will begin with severe sleep deprivation as he must stay awake for the first 72 hours to safely navigate the busy shipping waters around England’s south coast.

Sir David has been an advocate for St John Ambulance for more than 25 years and a trustee since 2012. He hopes his journey will help raise the profile of St John Ambulance’s volunteers and inspire others to try something new and step out of their comfort zone.
