‘It was the moment that I had been working towards for months,’
says Katryn Burgess. ‘As I crossed the finish line of my
half-marathon, all of my training, hard work and effort had paid
off..It was the best feeling ever. Elated, I turned to my mum and
sister to wave.
‘I don’t remember what happened next.’
24-year-old Katryn Burgess had a heart attack after completing a
half-marathon in Cheshire. As horrified spectators looked on, St
John Ambulance volunteers sprang into action and began to
administer
CPR
.
A volunteer carried out a shock to bring Katryn’s heart
back into rhythm, and she was rushed to hospital in one of
the charity’s ambulances.
