Training courses for the general public
Every year, up to 150,000* people die in
situations where first aid could have given them the chance to
live. At a St John Ambulance first aid course, you'll learn vital
skills to be the difference between life and death in an
emergency.
The right course for you
We offer three short training courses for members of the public.
The courses differ slightly, but each of them will equip you with
the knowledge and confidence to deal with both minor incidents and
major emergencies, such as severe bleeding, heart attacks, choking
and an unconscious casualty who has stopped breathing.
Essential first aid
If you would like to be able to provide essential first aid for
adults (puberty upwards), this is the course for you.
Essential first aid (all ages)
This course is identical to the adults' course but
also includes specific resuscitation techniques for infants
and children.
Basic first aid
This course will teach you how to manage everyday minor
accidents. Learn how to treat an unconscious and breathing casualty
and manage minor cuts, grazes, bleeding and burns.
Activity first aid
This course covers how to deal with conditions related to
leisure, sporting activities and the outdoors.
Essential and basic first aid
A comprehensive course which combines elements from both the
essential and basic first aid courses.
