Training for schools staff

The information here is for guidance and cannot replace the need for every school to carry out a full risk assessment.

Every school is different so it’s vital to ensure that the training your first aiders receive is appropriate to your needs. When determining the appropriate staff first aid training, it’s important to consider your three responsibilities:

  1. The safety and wellbeing of your staff
  2. The safety and wellbeing of your learners
  3. The safety and wellbeing of school visitors.

1.The safety and wellbeing of your staff

We offer two main workplace first aid courses:

Our online requirements calculator provides a quick guide to assess what training courses may be appropriate to meet your requirements for staff protection. Alternatively, you can call 0844 770 4800* for detailed guidance from our customer service advisers.

2.The safety and wellbeing of your learners

Standard first aid training courses do not include first aid procedures, such as resuscitation for children, so supplementary first aid training is required.  When determining the appropriate first aid to protect your school’s students, you need to consider many factors, including:

  • the number of students in your school
  • the students’ ages (eg. if you have an early years unit or teach pupils that haven’t yet reached puberty, you’ll need to ensure you have a sufficient number of staff trained in Paediatric first aid)
  • disabilities and existing health conditions (eg. if you have students with specific allergies, you might want to consider Anaphylaxis first aid  training or ensuring that training includes using an auto-injector for severe allergic reactions)
  • specific risks such as sports activities and learning in science labs (eg. you could consider Sports first aid training for your staff members who take charge of sports activities)

It’s vital that you assess all the risks in order to determine the appropriate first aid training to protect your students.

We can customise first aid training for a group of your staff to take place on your school premises. This is perfect for ensuring that training meets your specific first aid needs. Call us on 0844 770 4800* to discuss and book

3.The safety and wellbeing of your school visitors

The training provided to your first aiders for the protection of your school’s staff and learners will generally be appropriate to cover you should visitors require first aid attention. It’s important to make sure that the training meets your insurance requirements and that visitors are aware of the first aid processes in place.
