Who are we?

schools first aid

We are the nation’s leading first aid charity. We train over 500,000 people every year in first aid and health and safety.

We want every child and young person in the country to have access to first aid training, in order to:

  • Teach the value of life, along with the skills needed to save it
  • Develop communication skills and increase self-esteem
  • Allow young people to participate more fully with their family and within their community
  • Enhance their CV by offering a future employer a meaningful qualification
  • Boost UCAS applications by demonstrating evidence of valuable extra-curricular activity.

I am delighted that St John Ambulance has developed a new strategy for schools.

Jim Knight MP, Minister of State for Schools and Learner said: ‘I am delighted that St John Ambulance has developed a new strategy for schools. The charity’s commitment to ensuring young people are trained in these important life saving skills is commendable and their work with teachers, schools Pupil Referral Units is really important.

I am pleased to hear that the St John Ambulance Young first aider package has been welcomed so broadly by all those who work with young people in schools, out of school and by young people themselves; and that there are plans to expand its reach into extended schools activities, while also engaging young people themselves in the training of these skills.’
