Youth leaders

Can you inspire the next generation of life savers?

Young people join St John Ambulance either as Badgers or Cadets, where they learn first aid, make new friends and take part in a range of fun activities. Our RISE project helps disadvantaged young people learn how to save lives and gain new skills.

As a volunteer youth leader you’ll support young people in learning first aid and help them gain new skills, experience and qualifications along the way. You’ll encourage and inspire young people from all walks of life to develop their potential.

We make sure you’re given all the support you need to excel, including access to outstanding training in youth work.

If you think you fit the bill, we’d love you to be part of our team.

‘Volunteering’s taught me so many things that will help with my career – everything from interview skills to writing better emails! I’ve also gained communication, listening and presentation skills. Now I can stand up in front of a group and not shy away. I love empowering young people – it’s inspiring.’ – Ben, Youth Leader

Roles in this category include:

Youth leader
As an enthusiastic youth leader you will lead the delivery and preparation of the youth programme for one of our units (this could be for Badgers, Cadets, Peer Education, Youth First Aid or RISE).

Youth leaders volunteer around four hours per week, at evenings and weekends.

Youth helper
Youth helpers always work under the supervision of trained youth leaders. You’ll need to be enthusiastic, have an interest in helping young people to develop, and have good communication skills.

Youth helpers volunteer four-six hours each month, in the evenings.
