Youth Leader - Central Wolverhampton and Fallings Park

No one should die because they needed first aid and didn’t get it. St John Ambulance (SJA) teaches people first aid so they can be the difference between life and death, and you can help us do this.

As a volunteer working with young people you will help the SJA youth mission by providing children and young people with developmental opportunities to help them achieve their full potential. This is done with an emphasis on being led by the views and aspirations of our young volunteers and with a commitment to equality of opportunity for every young person who wishes to get involved.

Specifically the role is to assist the unit manager in the organisation and running of a youth unit; to design and deliver an inclusive and accessible Youth programme, within SJA youth policies, procedures and guidelines, which meet the aspirations and needs of young people and requirements of the programme.

This role is exempt from the provisions of the Rehabilitations Offenders Act.

We are seeking Youth Leaders to work with our Badgers (7-10 year olds) and Cadets (10-18 year olds) on Tuesday evenings (Fallings Park) and Friday evening (City Centre), helping them develop First Aid and life skills as well as have fun along the way. Badgers learn these skills through our Super Badger Award scheme whilst Cadets do this throughout Grand Prior and Cadet Trainee First Aider programs. Subsequently Cadets can then support our Adult Volunteers in providing First Aid cover for events across the City of Wolverhampton. Full training will be given to successful applications in First Aid and Youth Work through our internally developed courses. Please be aware that due to the training required and a need to provide continuity in leadership this is not a short term commitment.

Please see the role description for further details of this post.

For an infornal discussion please contact Area Manager, Fran Watkins - fran.watkins@sja.org.uk

Closing date for this post is 31st March 2017. Interviews will be taking place week commencing 10th April 2017.
