Regional Safeguarding Manager (West Midlands)
St John Ambulance has two main activities – first aid services and programmes for young people.
We have 2,500 employees and 19,000 volunteers. We also have 20,000 young people in our youth programmes.
Through our workplace training, first aid supplies and ambulance businesses we raise money to enable our volunteers to learn and deliver lifesaving first aid skills as well as supporting our youth programmes. Our turnover is £100M per year and growing. We have been through several years of change and reform and are now a vibrant 21st century charity.
Every year, more than 800,000 people learn how to save a life through our programmes, including hundreds of thousands of young people.
Our volunteers provide first aid in their communities, keeping people safe at events, and working alongside the NHS in response to 999 calls.
Event services: We provide medical cover for events – from major sporting fixtures and music festivals to public gatherings.
Ambulance services: We play a crucial role in supporting the emergency services, responding to local incidents and major accidents.
Workplace training and first aid supplies: We’re the leading provider of workplace training, reaching over 250,000 people a year. We also have a growing supplies business, supporting many external customers as well as our own first aid and ambulance organisations.
Young people: We don’t just teach lifesaving skills – we offer lifesaving opportunities as well.
Some roles involve a commitment of a few hours a month while others require significantly more. Safeguarding enables children and young people to enjoy our wide range of youth programmes and to ensure vulnerable adults are safe from harm. The role includes visiting our units, talking with leaders, volunteers, and service users, organising training and dealing with causes for concern.

The national safeguarding team in St John Ambulance is looking for a motivated individual with practical experience to join their team to manage the regional safeguarding function in West Midlands Region.
Responsibilities will include designing and implementing your region’s safeguarding plan, managing the district safeguarding teams, providing clear direction to ensure the successful execution of the plan to ensure safe working practices and support is available to all employees and volunteers in West Midlands Region.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with the skills to influence and lead and will have proven experience of managing a team and working collaboratively with other functional teams.

The process will consist of two interviews, the first interview will be with the Head of Safeguarding and the second interview will be held with The Regional Director.
