St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity. Every year, over 400,000 people learn how to save a life through our training programmes, including hundreds of thousands of young people. First aid is such a simple skill, but it has an incredible impact. We want everyone to learn it, so that they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
To achieve this, we provide a wide range of products and services such as our workplace and community training, first aid support at events and our vital work with the emergency services with our ambulance operations. We generate around £100m per annum which we reinvest in delivering and campaigning for better access to first aid for everyone. By doing this, we can give people access to important skills that they wouldn’t otherwise get the chance to learn.
We are also passionate about campaigning to raise awareness of first aid so that everyone has access to lifesaving knowledge through our award-winning ad campaigns such as "The Chokeables" which is credited with saving at least 55 babies lives and recently won the Charity Film of the Year Award 2017.
St John Ambulance enables communities to be safer by giving people lifesaving skills and knowledge to help their families and people around them. We are currently looking for volunteer Community Advocates who will help to be the difference within their community by building relationships and promoting the importance of learning lifesaving skills.
As a Community Advocate you will have the opportunity to be involved with helping us deliver our programme of first aid education and awareness; from helping us to promote St John Ambulance and the importance of first aid, to planning and running first aid workshops in your community, which will provide skills to people who might not necessarily have the chance to learn them meaning they can become that most vital of things, the difference between a life lost and a life saved.
Regardless of whether you have years of volunteering experience or you have never volunteered before but would like the opportunity to give something back, get more involved within the community, meet some great people, and help us save lives…we would love to hear from you. St John Ambulance will provide all the training and resources that you will need to make a difference in your community.
We are looking for passionate people with relationship building skills who take pride in their community. This is a flexible volunteering role; you can give as much or as little time as you can afford. You will be involved in a range of activities from helping to promote a local first aid event to planning and running workshops. SJA will provide everything else you need, all you need to provide is enthusiasm and a passion for making a difference.
If you have First Aid experience, that is helpful, but isn’t essential. You will receive a First Aid Certificate in Essential First Aid All Ages plus Defibrillator training. First Aid and Advocate training dates will be confirmed via email and telephone. St John Ambulance is required to complete an enhanced DBS check for all candidates.
This is a funded partnership project with Nesta and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. It supports the growth of innovations that mobilise the time and talents of people in the second half of their lives to help others, alongside public services.
