Sussex Homeless Service

Sussex homeless service volunteers interacting on the streets

The St John Ambulance Homeless Service provides first aid and primary health care to homeless and vulnerably housed people in Brighton and Hastings.

We train both homeless people and those affected by drugs and alcohol in basic first aid skills.

We also offer training to frontline workers in first aid treatment for problems associated with homelessness such as drug overdoses.

The training and health care offered by the Homeless Service are now in greater demand than ever.

Teams of St John Ambulance volunteers and staff run drop-in clinics in Brighton and Hastings at day centres, a soup kitchen and a hostel. We also station a mobile treatment unit on Brighton seafront every Thursday evening.

‘It’s a 100% marvellous service. Without it people could die on the street. They’ve saved lives.’ - Hastings Homeless Service client
