St John Ambulance at Wimbledon
Each year St John Ambulance looks after crowds from around the
world enjoying Wimbledon fortnight. This public event requires 42
volunteers a day manning six first aid posts throughout the
grounds. The volunteers consist of trained first aiders, nurses and
doctors.
For an event that sees over 30,000 people walk through its gates
each year, there are relatively few people treated. The most
dangerous element of Wimbledon is the weather. When the sun comes
out everyone must take care. Sunburn, heat exhaustion and
heatstroke sufferers are treated every year.
St John Ambulance reminds the public throughout the event
to:
- Use sun block
- Drink plenty of non-alcoholic drinks
- Cover up with loose cotton clothing and hats.
