Museum Events Assistant
Everyone who needs it should receive first aid from those around them. No one should suffer for the lack of trained first aiders.'
St John Ambulance is the nation’s leading first aid charity. Every year, 400,000 people learn how to save a life through our training programmes, including hundreds of thousands of young people. First aid is such a simple skill, but it has an incredible impact.
About the Museum
The Museum of the Order of St John tells a fascinating story of a thousand years of chivalry, courage and care. Housed in stunning Noman and Tudor buildings on the edge of the City, it is run by a tightly-knit team of people who believe passionately in the importance of the Order’s buildings and collections, history and traditions, to its modern work and to that of its subsidiary, St John Ambulance.
About the Role
The Museum is seeking an Events Assistant to join the Events Team at St John’s Gate. This is an exciting time, with new plans and projects in the offing, so we’re looking for a creative enthusiast who combines experience and common sense with a willingness to explore fresh concepts.
You will respond swiftly to enquiries, handle showrounds with imagination and charm, deal efficiently with ongoing events briefing and fine-tuning, liaise promptly with suppliers and curators and steward events attentively, working as a member of the dedicated Events Team to balance the care of our historic rooms with the achievement of significant and steadily increasing annual sales.
You will be required to work the occasional late evening and weekend, depending on when events are scheduled.
Please review the Job Description for more details about this role.
You will have relevant events experience, preferably in historic buildings. You will be articulate, perceptive, efficient, courteous, imaginative and preferably knowledgeable about English history from the Mediaeval to the Tudor eras. You will be accustomed to thinking on your feet, and unfazed by creating, planning and implementing complex events in ancient, fragile and labyrinthine buildings. You are the kindest of comforters to a small, frightened bridesmaid; impeccably professional during a complex conference; and charmingly assertive when birthday-partying octogenarians become over-excited.
We look forward to receiving your application! If you have any questions regarding this role, please direct your enquiries to NHQ-HR@sja.org.uk
