Everyday Heroes awards 2016 – inspiring finalists announced

The annual St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes awards is back with over 50 incredible finalists, whose first aid stories show extraordinary courage and unwavering commitment to saving lives.Everyday heros 2015

It is our yearly celebration of ordinary people who’ve taken extraordinary heroic actions to help someone in need and is supported by Laerdal Medical. Each finalist has been nominated for their heroic lifesaving skills or unstinting commitment to ensuring more lives are saved through first aid.

This year, the star studded awards will be held on 7 September at The Grange hotel, St Paul. And will be hosted by presenter and musician, Myleene Klass, who saved her daughter from choking using first aid. Some of this year’s incredible stories include:

  • • a postman who saved a young man who was hit by a car
  • • an engineer who sprang into action when an explosion tore through his worksite
  • • a teenager who’s raised over £6k for defibs in her local area
  • • a mum who saved her baby son from choking
  • • a singer who campaigns for defibs following the death of her rugby player husband.

‘I feel very privileged to be hosting the St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes awards as I know from personal experience how scary it is when you’re faced with a first aid emergency. My own daughter choked when she was just a baby, and I really believe because of the first aid training I'd had, I was able to save her life.‎' says host Myleene Klass. ‘I’m looking forward to meeting all of the inspiring finalists and hearing their stories. It’s going be an incredible evening.’

Sue Killen, CEO at St John Ambulance

‘Everyday Heroes is the very essence of what St John Ambulance is about – ordinary people doing extraordinary things through first aid. We believe that no one should suffer for a lack of first aid, and the actions of our finalists prove that first aid really can be the difference between life and death.'

Steve Overton, Managing Director of Laerdal UK

‘To hear these amazing stories of everyday heroes who have acted bravely in difficult circumstances is an inspiration to us all and truly shows that we can save people from dying unnecessarily, a vision that Laerdal shares with St John Ambulance.’
