A statement from St John Ambulance on the release of research from the European Resuscitation Council

We welcome the release of the European Resuscitation Council’s research today which aims to raise clinical standards in resuscitation and ultimately help save more lives. The research is updated every five years.

In the event of a cardiac arrest, early CPR and early defibrillation still give a person the best chance of survival so we encourage everyone to learn first aid so they could be the difference between life and death in an emergency.

Our medical advisors will be reviewing the research in detail to determine what impact it may have on our clinical and training protocols. Our first aid advice may therefore be updated in due course.

St John Ambulance, British Red Cross and St Andrew’s First Aid are the acknowledged experts in training and practising first aid and responsible for the production of the official first aid manual.
