Jay Fox crowned champion at 30th Cadet of the Year
competition
St John Ambulance celebrated 30 years of our Cadet of the Year
competition this weekend (1 - 3 April) as 34 cadets descended on
Gilwell Park Scout Camp in Chingford to compete in the national
competition final.
The cadets were put through their paces over the weekend, with
their performance and skills being evaluated by six assessors.
The competition challenges included completing individual first
aid assessment marked by a trained paramedic, and giving
presentations on topical issues such as youth mental health and
access to health services.
Following a uniform check and drill practice outside in the
grounds, the cadets were also tested in a PR exercise.
On Saturday night, the cadets celebrated the 30th anniversary of
the Cadet of the Year competition with a formal dinner and
disco.
Final interviews with the panel of assessors took place on
Sunday morning, before the winners were announced in an awards
ceremony. The assessors were very impressed with the standard of
all 34 cadet participants’ knowledge and skills.
Huge congratulations to Jay Fox, our new National Cadet of the
Year!
