‘I believe that the training St John
Ambulance provides is excellent, and when we need to use
it in an emergency it ‘kicks’ in immediately.
I experienced this when I was faced with an emergency on
a train when a man collapsed. I placed him onto the floor
when I couldn’t find a response and realised he was not breathing.
One of the passengers phoned for an ambulance and I
I decided that he probably had enough air inside his lungs when
I heard agonal gasps so I concentrated on giving chest
compressions. I was pleased to see the ambulance team at the
platform. We were all delighted when there were signs of a
noticeable pulse and he made a good recovery.’
