About the Role

As Head of Internal Audit at St John Ambulance, you will be responsible for managing the Internal Audit department to provide independent, objective assurance to the Audit and Risk Committee on the management of risk throughout the organisation. The department helps management accomplish the organisation’s objectives by bringing a systematic disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management and governance processes.

A key responsibility for this role is to develop and implement a strategy for Internal Audit in line with the strategic goals of the organisation. You will regularly provide assurances to the Audit and Risk Committee on the effectiveness of risk management across St John.

About You

To be successful in this position you should be experienced working in a similar position and have a strong understanding of Three Lines of Assurance and experience of its application. You will be able to develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and be comfortable managing a team to deliver an audit plan in accordance with internal audit strategy.

Experience:

  • Leading an Internal Audit function, using risk based Internal Auditing that meet IIA Audit Standards
  • Be comfortable undertaking strategic and operational audits
  • Reporting to Audit and Risk Committee and assisting the Committee to achieve its responsibilities
  • Adding value to an organisation’s strategy through the impact of good Internal Audit
  • Experience of designing, implementing and improving an audit approach within a charity would be highly beneficial

Core Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
  • Ability to use Microsoft applications at an intermediate level
  • Strong knowledge of IIA standards
