What is the Big Give Christmas Challenge?

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s largest online matched funding campaign. This is very exciting for us, with an opportunity to receive up to £60,000 in funding towards St John’s youth programmes.

We have been fortunate enough to receive a pledge of £30,000, which means when the campaign launches at 12 noon on 1st December, ALL donations made during that week are doubled up to the value of the pledge pot. That means if we can raise £30,000 between the 1st–8th December, we will receive the maximum donation of £60,000.

It would be hard to find a more deserving group than our 11,000 wonderful Badgers and Cadets, who, since March 2020, have been unable to physically meet. This will likely continue into 2021 as we follow government guidance. Although many are staying engaged via weekly virtual sessions, you simply cannot replace the benefits face-to-face contact brings. We want to create more opportunities to build positive relationships when units can meet up again in 2021.

This December we’re asking you to support our young people by making a donation to our Big Give Christmas Challenge appeal. For one week only, your donation will be doubled at no extra cost to you.

The difference you will make

Your support will bring young people back together, to develop their life skills, confidence, and help give them a sense of belonging that they may have lost during lockdown. And we know from experience Badgers and Cadets develop employability skills, enabling them to become active citizens in their community.

£75: could pay for the uniform of one young person where their family may not be able to

£150: could help subsidise the place of one young person on our programmes completely, giving more young people the chance to participate

£1,000: could pay for a 2-day Care Module training course, which will equip up to 24 Cadets aged 16-17 years old with the most up-to-date skills. This will enable them to volunteer safely during the pandemic, at events and in the community, empowering them to be the next generation of lifesavers.

£5,000:  would support the running of a unit of 30 Cadets (ages 10-17) for one year. Their St John training teaches them how to act under pressure, work as a team and develop their leadership skills, helping them to achieve their full potential.

Please consider making a gift towards this lifesaving campaign and supporting the future of our young people. By choosing to donate through the Big Give, your gift can have twice the impact.
