Primary survey - teaching resources and lesson plans

This teaching module helps students to learn how to assess a first aid situation for dangers to themselves and a casualty before moving on to check the casualty for any life-threatening conditions.

Lesson overview – primary survey

By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

  • • assess a situation for dangers
  • • know how to check the casualty’s responses, open their airway and check for breathing.

The lesson plan, presentation, and flowchart worksheets teach students the DR ABC method to check for Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation.
