St John Ambulance launches Apprentice Trainer Programme

Applications now open for St John Ambulance's apprentice first aid trainer programme, aimed at young adults aged 18 – 20.

St John Ambulance first aid cpr training

The apprenticeship programme – the first of its kind for St John Ambulance – offers young adults the opportunity to combine practical on-the-job training with study. The programme aims to educate young people in teaching and assessing first aid so that they are able to pass on their first aid skills to others.

Supported by Babcock International, our apprenticeship programme provider, we’re looking for apprentices with good interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to be engaging in a learning environment and an enthusiasm to learn. GCSEs, experience of volunteering, previous training and first aid skills are also desirable, however they are not essential. If you think you’d fit the bill, search our vacancies for apprenticeship places.

The apprentice trainer programme will last for eighteen months, beginning on 28th September 2015 and finishing in March 2017.

As an apprentice, you’ll spend your first three months of the course being inducted into St John Ambulance, understanding how we work and being trained up in first aid. After this, you’ll experience training in different first aid areas of St John Ambulance, including community and in the workplace. You’ll be learning how to teach and assess others in first aid, as well as completing various assignments and gathering evidence for assessments.

You’ll receive a first class and comprehensive first aid training package. During the course you’ll have the opportunity to volunteer as a first aider at community, music and sports events and to gain your Duke of Edinburgh’s award. Once the course is complete you’ll receive an NVQ level 3 certificate in learning and development.

Recruitment opens on Wednesday July 1st 2015, and closes in the first week of August. We will be recruiting in Stockport, Birmingham and London.
