‘Non-stop’ Isle of Wight challenge for care home

Charles Elford St John Ambulance

Whitstable man set to walk 106km around the Isle of Wight for St John Ambulance Care Home

While many of us will be firing up the barbeques this bank holiday weekend, Charles Elford will be attempting to make his way around the Isle of Wight in just 24 hours - covering a massive 106 kilometres.

‘I will start on the Saturday morning and will keep going until I’ve finished,' said Charles when talking to our Events team recently.

Charles is taking on this enormous challenge in aid of the St John Ambulance Care Home in Whitstable. His fundraising efforts will go towards converting a bathroom into a new wet room, enabling residents to have a better standard of care.

Charles is aiming to raise £1500 for the project. He said: ‘This improvement work will make a tremendous and long-term difference to the care home and the people who live there.’

Any extra raised will be put towards recreational activities for the residents.

His journey will start at the St John Ambulance Care Home in Whitstable and finish in West Cowes, covering some difficult terrain and challenging hills on the island.

Great effort – best of luck Charles!
