First aid is a way of life for me and my wife
Doreen. More then 40 years on and with 80 years’ combined
service to the first aid charity between us, we continue to
carry out first aid duties at public events across the
Hucknall, Linby and Papplewick areas.
We have used our first aid training to be the difference
between a life lost and a life saved on more than one
occasion, including a serious road accident on the M1
We treated the casualties before an ambulance
arrived. One of my most memorable public duties with St
John Ambulance was travelling to London for Sir Winston Churchill’s
State Funeral when I was 17 years old.
We have been recognised for our contribution towards providing
first aid by being invested into the Order of St John.
