‘I joined the St John Ambulance Aeromedical Service and was among 200 volunteer doctors and nurses who were asked to use their professional skills to bring home sick and injured people who had suffered illness or an accident abroad.

During that time I travelled to almost every continent. Under the auspices of the Metropolitan Police’s Royal Protection Group, I also worked in St John Ambulance designated units providing mobile intensive care to members of the Royal Family and diplomats in cases of sickness or injury.’
