Gerwyn Colin Lewis from Berkshire

Gerwyn Colin Lewis, 2000sSouth East‘I was on duty at a state visit in Windsor and was put in charge of four volunteers to cover the area from the Queen Victoria statue down to Windsor Riverside station. At the briefing we were told we were there for the general public.

One of the horse-guards that was escorting the procession was having trouble controlling his horse where I was stationed. It suddenly raced up and went backwards, crashing into one of the royal guards which caused more problems.

The horse threw its rider and then backed up. It was soon brought under control and I was summoned by a policeman to attend to the solider. After assessing the soldier, an Ambulance was called to take over and remove the patient. Luckily the soldier’s breast plate prevented any serious internal injury.’
