‘On 4 May
2011, I used my first aid skills to help save the life of
Tom Twist when he had a cardiac arrest. My husband Kirk
and I were on SJA duty at Chester races when we were informed that
Tom had collapsed and his breathing was
shallow.
We arrived at the scene with oxygen and an AED and took
over the necessary CPR. The AED was set up and we
administered oxygen. We continued the CPR while Emily, another
volunteer, helped the paramedics lift Tom onto the stretcher into
the ambulance.
Tom made a good recovery and later said 'I wouldn’t be
here now if it wasn’t for the first aid I received. I
would like to thank the St John Ambulance volunteers, the
paramedics and everyone else who helped save my life.’
