Do you have a passion for helping others?

Do you want to help make your community safer and more resilient with the power of first aid?

Are you looking for a flexible volunteer role that still makes a real impact?

Our exciting new Community Volunteer role is designed to be flexible, innovative, and open for all.

What does a Community Volunteer do?

Our Community Volunteers are at the heart of our fundraising and community activities. They help raise the funds that allow our volunteers to respond at events, teach first aid, and support communities when they need us most.

Our Community Volunteer role offers a variety of opportunities for you to support your community. You could be:

  • Fundraising to support the volunteering we deliver

  • Telling people about what we do and inspiring others to get involved

  • Showing people simple, life-saving skills to help them feel confident in an emergency.

You can take part in the activities that suit you. All we ask is that you give 24 hours over the course of a year.

As a Community Volunteer, you should:

  • Enjoy meeting and talking to people

  • Love organising events and activities

  • Want to make a positive difference in your community

  • Have ideas, energy, and enthusiasm.

When you join, we’ll provide:

  • An induction programme introducing you to St John Ambulance and how we work as a charity

  • Essential training including safeguarding, GDPR, health and safety

  • Specific training for the activities you choose to do

  • A uniform and any out-of-pocket expenses.

How long until I start volunteering?

We try to ensure that the process is as smooth and quick as possible, as we appreciate everyone who takes the time to apply. From when you first submit your application to when training begins, it can take a few weeks to get you ready to start volunteering. This is so we can do all the necessary checks and make sure that you are the right fit for the role and St John Ambulance. We will keep in touch with you at each stage of the process.
