My certificate has expired, can I still take the 2-day Requalification course?
Yes, delegates can take the 2-day Requalification course even if their original certificate has expired. It is best practice for delegates to renew their certificates before their current one runs out so that their First Aider status is still valid, but if that is not practical then as long as they can prove they’ve trained previously, they can attend the 2-day requalification. If there is a significant period since their previous certificate expired, we would always advise that the full 3-day course is undertaken again.
What if my 1-day certificate has expired?
If a delegate’s 1-day (Emergency First Aid at Work) course certificate is due to or has expired, the delegate simply attends an Emergency First Aid at Work (1-day) course again to receive a new St John Ambulance certificate that is valid for a further three years.
Why do you charge transfer fees?
Our transfer and cancellation fees are in place to protect the charity. We are a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation and funds raised through commercial bookings help support our charitable and community output.
What if I arrive late for my course?
Due to regulatory requirements for minimum training contact hours, any student who arrives more than 15 minutes late on a 4 hour course, or more than 35 minutes late on any course, or part of a course of a longer duration, cannot complete the course.
Can I get a copy of my old certificate?
Yes. If your course was booked by your employer, then they can request a duplicate copy of your certificate on your behalf. If you have since left that company, your previous employer would still need to be them that requests a copy for you.
If you require a duplicate postal copy of a certificate that has already been sent out, there will be a charge of £20.00+VAT.

First aid and ambulance cover at events

If you have lost anything at an event, please contact the event organisers directly who will be able to help you.
Do you provide cover outside of England?
St John Ambulance only provides cover in England. Please contact one of our sister charities for event cover outside of England.
Can I just turn up to the unit?
If you would like to visit a unit, please get in touch with firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll put you in touch with your nearest unit.
I would like some first aid training for me/my school/my youth club, how do I go about doing this?
Our information on first aid for school pupils explains various options, including
• booking a trainer to come to your school,
• free lesson plans and resources for you to teach first aid,
• support to set up a first aid club at school.
I would like to become a paramedic - do you offer any training?
Becoming a St John Ambulance Cadet is a great way of getting hands-on experience ahead of training as a paramedic at university.
You can only become a paramedic by attending a university that offers a paramedic science course. Our volunteers will be trained to FutureQuals Level 3 and Level 4 awards in Emergency Care (Emergency Care Assistant and Associate Ambulance Practitioner), which has replaced IHCD. We currently don't offer a formal work experience programme.

How do I cancel or amend my direct debit?

How can I take part in your weekly lottery?
Visit lottery.sja.org.uk to buy your tickets and to find out more about the amazing prizes you could win. Tickets cost £1 each. Tickets are not for sale to or by anyone under 16 years of age.
Our lottery is licensed by the Gambling Commission.
When does the lottery draw take place?
The draw will take place every Friday, except when a Friday falls on a bank holiday, in which case the draw will take place on the next working day.
