St John Ambulance and BBC Radio Manchester Campaign wins Radio Academy

'Three Ways to Save a Life' wins the Gold Award in the Grassroots category at The Radio Academy's ARIAS

We're thrilled to share that 'Three Ways to Save a Life' WON the Gold Award in the Grassroots category at The Radio Academy's ARIAS last night! These annual awards celebrate the best of the UK radio and audio industry.

The campaign, a partnership between our Greater Manchester volunteers and BBC Radio Manchester formed in the aftermath of the Manchester Arena bombings which happened five years earlier, ran for eight months between 2022-2023. During this time, our amazing volunteers trained a whopping 16,160 people in lifesaving techniques including:

  • CPR

  • Using an AED

  • Treating severe bleeding

  • Helping someone who is choking

Over a quarter of the sessions were delivered by our Cadets.

Three Ways was endorsed by Mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham right from the outset. And the local volunteer team committed to training an additional 10,000 people during 2023.

What a fantastic achievement all round. Well done to all who took part!
