Are you passionate about heritage and sharing St John’s story with the public? Would you like to work with our Museum team on Fabric of Community: St John Ambulance Uniform and Volunteer Identity, a two-year project to transform the way we care for and share our extensive uniform collection. As part of this project, we will be collecting and recording the stories and memories of St John People. These ‘oral histories’ will help us bring our uniform collection alive through new interpretation and provide new resources that will form part of the charity’s archive. This is a rewarding role that will give you the opportunity to connect with people from across the charity.
The project has been made possible with Art Fund support.
What will you be doing?

· Carrying out research to prepare for interviews.
· Conducting interviews (always working in a pair and in a St John building).
· Accurately transcribing and summarising interviews.
· Collecting all the required paperwork and submitting to the Archive.
· Representing St John positively and in line with our HEART values.

· Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to empathise with others.
· Close attention to detail.
· Familiarity with Office 365.
· Full training will be provided and no previous experience working in Museums or Archives required.
How often will you be volunteering?
Flexible but ideally one day (7 hours) per week. Some tasks can be done remotely but interviews will be held in St John buildings and travel expenses covered.
There will be a one-day oral history training workshop at the Museum of the Order of St John.
