About the Role

Don’t miss out on an amazing opportunity, the Neonatal Transfer service for London is recruiting experienced EAC/ECA to join its St John ambulance team.


The Neonatal Transfer service has been established since 2003 and has expanded to its current model of four transfer teams per 24 hours, seven days a week. NTS London has plans to continue to expand as the needs of London grows. Will you be a part of this exciting transformation.?

As part of the Neonatal Transfer service for London, successful applicants will work alongside senior nurses and doctors, transferring some of London’s most vulnerable patients. The emergency side of the service provides 24/7 cover for the stabilisation of neonates and transfer to specialist units. The repatriation of neonates is undertaken by an experienced nurse and ambulance tech to transfer babies back to local units to be closer to home, Monday to Friday 07:30-19:45.

This service is integral to allowing sick patients to access specialist care in a timely manner whilst also supporting units in patient flow and families being able to stay together.


If successful you will be welcomed into a friendly and hardworking team, consisting of three consultants, specialist doctors and experienced transport nurses.

Our clinical teams are complemented by our ambulance technicians and work side by side providing the intensive, high dependency and special care our patients need using specially designed equipment and vehicles.

A full induction process is provided with competencies surrounding the transport situation and equipment. Shifts include rotation between dual and single clinician teams. Patterns include days, nights and the twilight team over weekdays and weekends.


The post holders will provide transport expertise for the team, assisting in the stabilisation and provision of specialist care. Successful applicants will be provided training including vehicle familiarisation, the operation of incubators and mounted equipment and team working.

Other opportunities include attending the Resus Council (UK) Neonatal Life Support course and the NTS Neonatal Emergency Simulated Team Training (NESTT). Staff also participate in team based teaching/training sessions, daily case discussions and audit/project work to develop the service.


The skills in the post holder would include being able to work proactively in a multi-disciplinary setting, demonstrating a high level of interpersonal skills, professionalism and accountability, communication skills and be flexible in their approach. As Emergency Ambulance Crew, you will be responsible for responding to both emergency and non-emergency situations where you will assess and treat patients to your trained skill level. You will be responsible for providing high quality, professional and compassionate care for patients and ensuring current clinical practice procedures and requirements are followed.

This unique and rewarding opportunity will allow you to train towards a qualification in Emergency Care and support your community and local ambulance services playing a pivotal role in the fight against COVID-19. As an organisation, we will provide all the necessary training and give individuals the chance to work alongside experienced Ambulance Crews in order to give you all the tools, information and knowledge to feel comfortable working on the frontline.

About You

To be considered for the role you must be educated to GCSE level and have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels. You should have a minimum of 12 months driving experience, and hold a full UK driving licence with a maximum of three penalty points. All applicants must have a C1 or be working towards C1 on their licence. Candidates will need to have an enhanced full DBS and complete a health check to ensure they are able to take up frontline work. If you do not currently hold an enhanced DBS, part of the process will be applying for one. Working hours will be on a shift basis, this is not a 9 to 5 role and will include weekend and bank holiday working.
