St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response, Night Time Economy and Homelessness outreach) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes). There is also a buoyant social enterprise network which delivers first aid training and supplies medical consumables to businesses and consumers.

Job Summary

The Leadership & Management Development Partner will take a proactive and engaging approach to all employee and volunteer development matters across St John, while managing a team of Advisors to develop innovative programmes to positively impact and empower managers to lead and manage their people in a modern approach. They will partner with SJA leaders to understand the needs of business areas, delivering interventions and supporting business leaders with the identification of future needs. They will have proven influence experience and will provide vital oversight and direction to a team, including their development, talent and growth of the People Advisor team, while working with the other People Services Leads, on a ‘one team’ approach.

About You

To be successful in this role, you need to be educated to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C / 4) including Maths & English, minimum 5, Further or higher education –  Learning & Development / CIPD / Training at Level 7 Teaching or similar relevant qualification, Proven L&D experience, including in the development and design of Leadership and Management Development plans, a robust experience in the design, development and delivery of Leadership and Management Development programmes and strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to provide sound judgement and decision making.

About the Role

  • Lead the Leadership Management Development team in creating a high performing and positive team to work within, taking a people-centric approach to upskilling and developing SJA Leaders and Managers.
  • Working in partnership with the Head of People Services and Transformation, lead on the design, development and implementation of organisational development, inclusion and learning, to deliver strong development plans for Leaders, translating organisational values into meaningful leadership actions. Ensuring plans are future-focused, relevant, innovative, cost effective and aligned to Network plans and SJA strategy. 
  • Partner with SJA leaders in translating current and future leadership and management development needs at all levels, being able to influence the need for continuous learning and development. 
  • Coach and influence stakeholders in all management development/upskilling matters, making recommendations of initiatives to respond to challenges.
