Help us empower the next generation of lifesavers

We offer a range of popular youth programmes for young people aged 5-25. This essential service is only possible with the support of our dedicated volunteers. They help young people to learn first aid and other important life skills in a fun, inclusive, and engaging environment.

As a volunteer, you can get involved with Badgers (ages 5-10), Cadets (ages 11-17), or become a Duke of Edinburgh's Award Leader.

Volunteering with our Youth Team is an incredibly varied and rewarding role. One day you could be designing and delivering a game to teach first aid, the next you could be ensuring that the correct safeguarding procedures are being followed. No two days are the same!

  • Be part of a thriving volunteer network – you’ll get to meet new people and connect with other St John Ambulance volunteers.

Do I need previous experience of volunteering with young people?

We usually ask that you have some previous experience of volunteering or working with young people. However, it isn't essential as we understand that not everyone has had the opportunity to do so, and it depends on the role you apply for.

We do ask that you come with a willingness to learn, an ability to communicate with a wide range of people, and are passionate about seeing young people succeed.

If you’re unsure about volunteering with our youth team, then there are still lots of other ways you can get involved such as becoming a Community First Aider or providing essential support behind the scenes. Or if you’re looking for a step up, then take a look at our leadership roles
