About the Role

We’re proud to partner with Great Ormond Street Hospital to be the transport provider to the Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS) and we’re looking for passionate, dedicated Emergency Ambulance Crews to support this service.  You’ll work alongside the clinical teams from CATS to respond to, stabilise and transport critically unwell children between Intensive Care Units across London and surrounding areas.
The Children’s Acute Transport Service (CATS) is a paediatric critical care transport team serving around 50 hospitals in the North Thames, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and East Anglia. St John Ambulance CATS have a longstanding relationship dating nearly 20 years and together we respond to, stabilise and transport critically unwell children between Intensive Care Units across London and the surrounding counties.

Together, we are one of the largest specialist paediatric transport services in Europe and move 1,200 critically ill children a year by road and air. The CATS team take the skills of a paediatric intensive care unit ‘on the road’, to the bedside of critically ill children where it is needed.

Our small but effective team of Emergency Ambulance Crew (EAC) are co-located with the Trust’s clinical team on the Great Ormond Street Hospital site where they plan and respond to thousands of requests to support unwell children each year.  Functioning as a truly embedded team, our EACs are part of a truly unique team bringing joy to families lives in caring for their loved ones.

And you can join this amazing team today!  We’re looking for passionate and committed people to join this service and become part of the team.

As an EAC, you will be responsible for ensuring your vehicle and clinical equipment are ready to respond to referrals, joining the clinical team for planning, coordination and review sessions.  You’ll expertly handle transporting the clinical team to a referring hospital, be part of the team that helps to stabilise the patient and then safely deliver them to the receiving hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. You will be responsible for providing high quality, professional and compassionate care for patients and ensuring current clinical practice procedures and requirements are followed.
