St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response, Night Time Economy and Homelessness outreach) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes). There is also a buoyant social enterprise network which delivers first aid training and supplies medical consumables to businesses and consumers.

Job Summary

The postholder leads governance and continual service improvement activities to safeguard the use of systems and data by ensuring compliance to regulatory standards, seeking best value and appropriate use. They lead and manage a team of analysts to focus on delivering all continuous improvement, information security, service catalogue management, access management, service request fulfilment and risk activities.

They measure and monitor the quality of DDAT services through the production of information management, dashboards and balanced scorecards leading action plans for improvement and identifying and elevating risks into the board assurance framework. 

They are the recognised subject matter expert for governance providing leadership and direction across St John through managing audits, responding to new activities such as requests for new software, technology projects tenders for new work, identifying risks and overseeing the implementation of mitigations and identifying and implementing continuous learning. 

They are a key member of the SIAM Management Team representing their specialism and providing leadership for best practise standards such as ITIL.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, Degree in computing or related subject; or equivalent relevant commercial experience, Management of ITIL change programmes within a similar scale organisation, Proven experience of implementing technology governance frameworks, IT policies and Ability to lead and influence a cross functional team without being a direct line manager.

About the Role

  • Documenting the Technology Governance Framework, incorporating policy, risk management, service management, information security, business continuity and disaster recovery
  • Chairing post incident reviews for all high priority incidents, progressing lessons learnt onto the continual service improvement register
  • Leading on technology audits, together with activities to monitor process and policy compliance.
  • Leading on technology and information security policies, ensuring that they are fit for purpose and underpinning procedures are documented and understood
