St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response, Falls response, Night Time Economy and Homelessness outreach) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, NHS Cadets and Young Responders programmes). Job Summary

As the Culture and Inclusion Partner, you will lead a team and play a pivotal role, in developing and fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace culture within our charity organisation.

Reporting to the Head of Culture & Inclusion you will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote and engender a sense of belonging and fairness across all aspects of our operations and internal networks. This role requires a deep understanding of organisational culture, Equity, Diversity, Inclusion (EDI) principles, excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, and the ability to drive meaningful change to engender a culture where all our people feel safe and connected and treated with compassion and kindness.

The Role Holder will lead on our people engagement activity, connecting all St John people, including the vision of our Trustees and stakeholders at St John Ambulance. You will lead on our work to inspire, inform and engage volunteers and employees nationwide, across all aspects of the charity’s strategy. 

You will lead and manage our Culture & Inclusion, Wellbeing, Communications & Engagement and Policy Development and Governance functions as a proactive partner to the rest of the charity, empowering the team to continue their growth and development. 

About You

To be successful in this role, you need to be Educated to degree level or extensive and significant relevant experience , Educated to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C / 4) including Maths & English, minimum 5, CIPD Level 5 or equivalent (or evidence of similar level of lived experience, have experience of designing and delivering EDI and Culture plans within large complex organisations, Experience of analysing, triangulating and synthesising evidence to generate actionable insights, using a range of structured thinking and strategic analysis tools and approaches (e.g. industry segmentation, prioritisation matrix, horizon scanning) and Ability to coach, develop and drive a high performing, independent team that deliver against deadlines, and are able to interact, engage and communicate effectively across the organisation at any level.

About the Role

 You will lead the development and implementation of strategy, frameworks, process and initiatives that reflect current and emerging approaches to organisational culture and people engagement

  • Using your experience and expert knowledge, lead the Culture and Inclusion team to design, deliver and embed a culture of belonging and ethical behaviours and respect, where all individuals feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute their best.
  • Lead the team to develop and deliver a culture and inclusion road map training and coaching sessions, workshops, and resources to raise awareness and enhance understanding, create psychological safety and drive to embed an inclusive culture.
  • Lead on targeted engagement activity, including our Pulse survey and support our St John Networks develop key actions, in response.
  • Measure and evidence how St John culture is evolving
  •  Support the integration of EDI principles into all aspects of policy development, communications and engagement, talent management, including recruitment, retention, and performance management.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and People Services and Transformation teams to develop comprehensive EDI strategies aligned with the charity's mission and values and Culture plan.

  • Monitor progress and evaluate the effectiveness and progress in developing a more inclusive culture and EDI efforts, through engagement activity, data analysis and stakeholder feedback and ensure continuous improvement 
  • Ensure regular policy horizon planning and scanning considering potential impact of emerging trends and developments on policies
