Community First Aider

Are you someone who cares deeply about your community? Do you agree that by sharing first aid skills and advice we can create a safer and more resilient community? If so, then becoming a Community First Aider might be the role for you!

While observing activity at an event through regular patrols, you could be involved in anything from providing first aid advice to providing lifesaving skills for a patient until the emergency services arrive.

Your actions can save lives. Whether it's a minor injury or a serious emergency, your skills will be the difference between panic and relief.

 

What to Expect

If you’d like to volunteer as a Community First Aider, you will have a range of responsibilities including supporting with local events, seeking and maximising our fundraising opportunities through community activities, attending or delivering talks and demonstrations as well as fundraising campaigns at events or roadshows.

Throughout your time in this role, we would hope to see the advocacy of St John Ambulance delivered throughout communities, as a member of the thriving Community First Aid Network and representative of St John Ambulance.

Emergency Responder

Do you have the physical, mental and emotional capability to support people in what could be the most challenging moments of their lives? Can you learn and deliver advanced life-saving skills and work with a team to keep people safe at large events and in other challenging environments? Then you could be the next Emergency Responder in your community!

As an Emergency Responder, you will be there in the moments that matter. You may be offering reassurance and minor treatment or contributing to a team that saves a life. From foreseeable to unexpected emergencies, you will exercise the capability to relieve sickness, distress and suffering and send patients onwards to the safety of their homes or further treatment.

 

What to Expect

For this role, you can expect to be a part of assessing and treating patients before contributing to their safe discharging where appropriate. Duties also include working both independently as well as part of a team to assist with things such as the handling of patients or taking charge of a first aid scene to deliver patient care in the absence of a more clinically qualified person.

Whilst in this role, you will also be responsible for providing robust handovers to colleagues and emergency service, understanding the appropriate need for escalation and be a shining representative of St John Ambulance by displaying behaviours that positively align with our HEART values.
