Course description

Who should attend?

This course is for members of the public who want to know what action to take in any emergency, and how to deal with accidents and injuries.

We welcome young people from the age of 12 onto all our community first aid courses. If under the age of 16, you must attend with a responsible adult member of your family or guardian (two young people per adult).

You will need a basic command of English to attend this course. We are often able to provide support to people who do not have English as a first language, but our ability to do so is limited by the time available and the number of people who require assistance. We may be able to make special arrangements if requested in advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.

Course duration

Three hours.

Topics covered

The course covers emergency life support procedures for adults, children and infants.

  • Adult, child and baby resuscitation (CPR)
  • Chest pain
  • Choking adults, children, and babies
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Primary survey
  • Severe bleeding
  • Unresponsive adults, children, and babies

Assessment and certification

Continuous observation by the trainer. Attendees are encouraged to play an active role throughout the course.

Attendees get a certificate of attendance.

This course is for the general public and will not meet Health and Safety Executive requirements to become a qualified workplace first aider.

For first aid courses appropriate for the workplace, please take a First Aid at Work or Emergency First Aid at Work course. If you’re unsure what first aid training is appropriate for your workplace, use our free requirements calculator.
