The Cycle Responders are a specialist team who are deployed for events and to support the NHS.

Please note: Cycle Responder is currently only suitable for people who are already St John Advanced First Aiders or higher.

The role

Cycle Responders are trained to  a high level of first aid and cycling skills. They are also deployed at events and in support of the NHS (with additional training) to provide first aid and medical services. They are committed, caring and conscientious. This role is suited to someone who enjoys cycling, the outdoors, and is able to work independently in a small team – as well as part of a larger unit.

Training and time commitment

The training and support we provide is as follows:

  • Welcome programme introducing you to the project & wider charity
  • Training in appropriate SJA policies
  • St John Safeguarding training relevant to your role
  • Cycle training as per SJA Operational Cycling Policy, Procedure & Guidelines Operational mentoring
  • Opportunities for out of region deployments to share best practices
  • Essential education requirements for role
  • Out of pocket expenses.

Expected Time Commitment

Ideally at least 15 events per year.
