About St John Youth Programmes

Youth work has always been a core part of St John Ambulance. Our Cadet movement was founded in 1922 for young people aged between 10 and 17, to train them to provide first aid at public events. Badgers was founded in 1988 to support 5 to 10 year olds to learn first aid, replacing the previous St John Juniors.

Together, St John Cadets and Badgers form one of the biggest uniformed youth organisations in England, with over 12,000 young people. Perhaps uniquely amongst youth organisations, almost all of our participants are active volunteers in their community.
