Essential first aid (adult)
Our updated Essential first aid for adults course is
ideal for those who want to develop life saving first
aid and CPR skills. On the course you'll find out what to do when
initially faced with an emergency and how to react when faced with
someone having a heart attack or seizure. This course covers the
essentials of how to save a life and includes an AED (automated
external defibrillator) demonstration.
Who should attend?
This course is for members of the public who want to learn how
to deal with accidents, injuries and medical conditions involving
an adult. It’s a practical course where you’ll simulate treating
people in life-threatening situations.
We welcome young people from the age of
12 onto all our community first aid courses.
If under the age of 16, a
responsible adult member of the family
or guardian must be in attendance for the duration of the
course. The adult/guardian can be responsible for 2 young
people per course, and must book a place on the course if they wish
to be trained and receive a certificate.
You will need a basic command of English to attend this course.
We are often able to provide support to people who do not have
English as a first language, but our ability to do so is limited by
the time available and the number of people who require assistance.
We may be able to make special arrangements if requested in
advance. Please contact us if you need any guidance.
The course covers emergency life support techniques, which deal
with an adult casualty only.
- The primary survey
- Unresponsive adults
- Choking adults
- Severe bleeding
- Adult resuscitation (CPR)
- AED (demonstration only)

This course is for the general public and will not meet
Health and Safety Executive requirements to become a qualified
workplace first aider.
